Towards a legally literate kerala
Rajagiri Legal Aid Cell was established in the year 2000 as a live lab of Rajagiri College of Social Sciences. Head of the Department is Sri.M.PAntoni, Convenor; RLAC.The Asst.Legal officer (Adv.Jaimole.P.A) handles the activities. Collaborating Agencies are Kerala Legal services Authority (KELSA), District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Taluk Legal Services Authority, Community Aid and Sponsorship Programme (CASP), Family Counselling Centre (FCC), Childline, Adoption Co-ordinating Agency (ACA) and Human Rights Law Network, Kochi.
Objective

To conscientise the people about the existing laws in order to lead a harmonious social life and to attain social welfare through legislations.

To organize programs of various Governmental and Judicial Authorities including KELSA, DLSA and Taluk Committees.

To promote Consumer Rights, Community Rights, Family Rights, Individual Rights etc.

To organize awareness programs on legal subjects.

To engage in Research and development of Conciliation and Arbitration.

To encourage pre-litigation settlements and establish peace and harmony.
Area

Legal consultation to clients who are economically poor and underprivileged in the society.

Legal Aid Cell mainly focus on empowering and strengthening women and children.

Free Legal Aid to the clients referred by Rajagiri Family Counseling Center, CASP, Adoption Co-ordinating Agency and Childline.

Co-operated with Mega Lok Adalat in Tsunami affected areas in Arattupuzha. 560 petitions settled in the adalaths.

RLAC along with BSW Students actively Involved in Mega Lok Adalat conducted by Kerala High Court as a part of Golden Jubilee Celebrations.

Legal aid clinic at Tsunami affected areas in Pallipuram, Edavanakad, Elamkunnapuzha and Chellanam. There are 800 petitions at Pallipuram, 450 from Edavanakad, 45 from Chellanam and 15 from Elamkunnapuzha.

Permanent Free Legal Aid Clinics-Implemented 2 Permanent Free Legal Aid Clinics at Kadamakudy and Choornikara Gramma panchayaths of Ernakulam District.

Milestones
2000 : Became an Accredited Organization of Kerala State Legal Service Authority (KELSA)
2002 : Implewmenting partner of Legal Literacy Programme in the schools of Aluva & North Paravur Taluks.
2003 : RLAC facilitated Kothad Community to become a ‘Litigation Free Zone’
2004 : Got sanctioned to depute a Social Worker member at the Adalats conducted under Aluva Taluk Legal Service Committee.
2005 : Two Staff Members of Rajagiri College became members of High Court Legal Service Committee.
2006 : Recognized to establish permanent Free Legal Aid Clinics in 9 Panchayats and 2 Municipalities of Ernakulam Districts.
Linkage with Department of Social Work
Acts as a resource center for students and staff on legal matters concerning to their field practicum as well as personal matters.
Provides resource persons to the certificate course of the college – Human Rights and Value Education.
The members of RLAC functions as Resource Persons to give classes/ lectures to students on social legislations.
