RAJAGIRI FAMILY COUNSELING CENTER (RFCC)
Rajagiri College of Social Sciences
Funded by Central Social Welfare Board, Govt. of India

Rajagiri Family Counseling Center was established in October 1999 as a live lab of Rajagiri College of Social Sciences. The center is funded by the Central Social Welfare Board, New Delhi.  The activities of the center is monitored by the Kerala State Social Welfare Advisory Board.  There is a sub committee constituting social activities, officials from the different Government departments and from the Board.  The sub committee meets quarterly to evaluate the functioning of the center.    Staff includes two counselors, a clerk/typist and a peon.

Objective

  • Preventing families from breaking up, and promoting harmony in the family.
  • The center provides preventive, curative and rehabilitative services to the women who are victims of the atrocities.
  • Crises intervention and proper management of cases   through adequate counseling services to the individual as well as the family.

  2. Services at General Hospital, Ernakulam
    Extended services to the Child and Adolescent Guidance clinic at Ernakulam General Hospital on Saturdays.  One counselor attends Child and Adolescent Guidance Clinic.   Duties include case history taking and counseling to parents and children.
  3. Publicity Campaign
    Counseling awareness campaigns are conducted at public places like railway stations, traffic junction etc.  RFCC organises womens’ day celebrations within and outside the campus.

  4. Services at local schools
    RFCC has extended its counseling services to the local Govt. Higher Secondary school. The counselors go to the school to give individual and group counseling to the students and also to give classes on mental health, study tips, etc.

Linkage with Department of Social Work

The students of Social Work get an opportunity to gain experience regarding case history taking, steps in counseling and counseling skills from the center. 

FUTURE PLANS

  • Starting counseling services in the community centers. 
  • Planning to give awareness in counseling to local school teachers
